strangers genuinely enquire

about age, name and gender

and everyone smiles

as they walk by

wagging

toddlers are 2nd class citizens

in towns predominated by

yuppies and dinkies

places of business may set out chairs

and employees always dish out receipts

strangers haphazardly enquire

about age (if at all)

and no one smiles

as they walk by

waving

alas

it is no wonder

that my toddler's aim

is to hit any dog

it is class warfare, after all

and he is losing badly

in our hometown

that is predominated by

yuppies and dinkies
